Request for Comments – Catalyst 6500 EEM + GOLD

I’m looking into Cisco’s Embedded Event Manager to proactively monitor Catalyst 6500 system health.  The idea is to schedule GOLD tests (and perhaps query other system attributes), and have EEM react to any bad news that comes up.

My question – are any you using EEM/GOLD to do proactive Catalyst 6500 monitoring?  If so, what are you checking?  What thresholds have you set to trigger an EEM reaction?  Has EEM saved your network from catastrophe?  I am aware of the EEM community, but I also want to see what you folks have to say.

  • Ethan, i’m using GOLD and EEM but not together (i like to manage hardware faults manually).
What exactly are you planning to do with the EEM applet?
